Telcel América, is a division of Tracfone (like TracFone, NET10 Wireless, Straight Talk, SIMPLE Mobile,Page Plus Cellular and Total Wireless). Tracfone is a division of América Móvil (the Latin American telecommunications company based in Mexico City).

Telcel América is marketed at Latinos, but for gringos who want to remain on the Verizon Network it seems like an excellent deal even if you don't make any international calls. lThe cheapest service I have seen on Verizon network for "Unlimited Talk and Text" has been $25 (3G phones only) so for only $1.10 more you get to activate a 4G phone and you get 100 MB of data.

Verizon prepaid charges $45 for 1 GB of data. So Telcel America is $9 less and gives you all the international calling besides.

Even if you don't speak Spanish it's a good bargain.
===================================

$36 with Auto-Refill
500MB 4G LTE† then 2G*
Unlimited Talk and Text
Unlimited** Calls to international land lines
250 minutes to mobile phones in Mexico, Canada, China and India

$26.10 with Auto-Refill
100MB 4G LTE†
lUnlimited Talk and Text
1,000 Minutes for International talk to land lines
100 Minutes to mobile phones in Mexico, Canada, China, and India

†To get 4G LTE speed, you must have a 4G LTE capable device and 4G LTE SIM. Actual availability, coverage and speed may vary. LTE is a trademark of ETSI. Please refer always to the Terms and Conditions of Service at TelcelAmerica.com.

**Each account is allowed to dial up to 15 unique international telephone numbers during a 30-day plan cycle, which resets each time a new plan is redeemed. Unlimited international calls are available to landline and mobile numbers in select destinations only, which are subject to change at any time. Calls must originate from the US, Puerto Rico, or Mexico. Other terms and conditions apply. Please always refer to the latest Terms and Conditions of Service at TelcelAmerica.com.

For a heavy data user I would think Straight Talk for $45 with 5gb LTE, unlimited talk/text might be a better choice: Free Samsung Phone, Free Overnight Shipping, Back to School | Straight Talk

Straight Talk (ST) and Telcel America (TA) are the same company (as are Tracfone, Net10wireless, Total wireless, and Page Plus Cellular

You are correct, that ST gives you the most data for $45. But if you are interested in international calling and/or 10 GB of data then TA gives you a better deal.

Straight Talk
$30 1500 Minutes Nationwide Talk Data at High Speed 0.1GB
$45 Unlimited Nationwide talk and text First 5GB of Data at High Speed, and then at 2G*
$60 Unlimited Nationwide, talk and text First 5GB of Data at High Speed, and then at 2G*
Unlimited Mobile to Mobile to Mexico, China, India & Canada, and Unlimited calls to select International landline destinations

Telcel America (prices with Auto-Refill)
All TA plans above $32 include Unlimited Mobile to Mobile to Mexico, China, India & Canada, and Unlimited calls to select International landline destinations

$26.10 Unlimited talk and text First 0.1 GB at 4G LTE† then stop
$31.50 Unlimited talk and text First 1 GB at 4G LTE† then 2G
---
$36.00 Unlimited talk and text First 0.5 GB at 4G LTE† then 2G
$40.50 Unlimited talk and text First 2 GB at 4G LTE† then 2G
$49.50 Unlimited talk and text First 4 GB at 4G LTE† then 2G
$54.00 Unlimited talk and text First 10 GB at 4G LTE† then 2G

My point is that in many cases the corporation is offering better values under the TA brand than the ST brand, but if you are not an immigrant you are very unlikely to even consider TA. The ST offer for $60 is ridiculously overpriced compared to the TA offer.

Remember these are just brand names for the same company. They all operate on the Verion network. The only difference is marketing. But you pay ST $30 for 1500 minutes talk and text and 0.1 GB of data, and TA costs $29 ($26.10 with autopay) for the unlimited talk and text with 0.1 GB of data.
