I wanted to sell some yarn but how do i calculate the cost of shipping?
Do i just bring my yarn to the ups store and they just weigh it and tell the cost of shipping?

That's one way.
You can also weight it yourself.
And a viable option could USPS flat rate.

How much yarn? Get hold of a kitchen scale and weigh it, you can ship stuff up to 13 ounces first class and pack it in a tyvek or plastic bag to keep the weight down, 13 ounces ship for $3.46 or if you have a lot to ship you can stuff a lot of yarn in a medium size USPS box for $13.45.

If you scroll down the page in this link there is a comparison of shipping rates for various size packages:

If you have a paypal account you can pay for shipping and print labels right from home: https://www.paypal.com/signin/?retur...md%3d_ship-now or you can buy and print USPS shipping labels on their website https://www.usps.com/ship/?gclid=Cjw...EJNRoC9wLw_wcB

Go to Ebay and look at the same yarn you have now to get ideas of sale prices. I'd suggest Ebay since you get special rates through the US Postal Service. The label prints on your home printer, you hand the package to your local carrier so you have zero expense to drive to the post office. And these shipping labels give you a tracking number.

Weigh your item and go to the postal site and look to see what the postage is from your location to the east coast and west coast. Let that be your shipping. You will know it won't be higher than that.
We use 90004 to determine shipping. If they are closer and the cost is slightly less then good.

Ebay and Paypal total fees will be 12.9% and it sounds like alot but selling yarn on Craigslist or other site may take a long while. Ebay reaches at least over 100 million people. They do have an international shipping program so you can offer you items to dozens of other countries. The cost to ship to any of them for you will only be the postage from your location to Kentucky. That is where the items leave for the countries and if they arrive in Kentucky that counts as a delivered item to France or wherever.

Really? I have not heard that eBay gets special USPS rate. How do you go about getting that (special discount code, etc)?

Ebay may not get lower rates, it may be that Ebay gives the discount and takes the hit and it helps reduce the Ebay final value fees.

Here is an example of the savings because the boxes you use for parcel select and regional A and B boxes are different than the ones you get in the post office. The ones to use with Ebay shipping are totally free from the postal site.

45% discount.
