Who is Cheaper : Lowes or Home Depot ? (sale, items, best)

I was wondering if you knew who was cheaper : Lowes or Home Depot ?

You can sure give examples of things you bought at either store

Home Depot is cheaper, but in my opinion the similarity is here: SAMS versus Costco - the wares at Costco are higher quality than those at SAMS, same with Home Depot - Lowes has better quality stuff, I think.

I do a lot of comparison shopping between them and don't find very much difference. I tend to see things a bit cheaper (by at the most $1) but when there is a price cut, usually its a deeper cut at Lowes. Example: cabinet knobs, sometimes I will find very nice knobs cut by 50% .... not so at HD. Toilets, a bit better priced at HD. Faucets, about the same. Light fixtures, better prices and HD. I got incredible deals at HD for close-out kitchen cabinets (pre-stained Hampton series).

Home Depot....but the employees are much nicer at Lowes..... That's why I spent $300.00 dollars there today.... And they gave me a 10% Veterans discount on that $300.00....but you have to ask for it and have proof....

I agree with the others who say they are pretty much the same...but it's handy to know that both offer the "price match + 10% off" gimmick.

If you are planning a major purchase, it pays to monitor both stores' sales ads.

My wife goes to Lowes and gets their best price and then takes it to the Home Depot where they match the lower price and gives her an additional 10%.

You get little service in either store. For service, you go to an Ace Hardware and pay a little more.

Home Depot usually has cheaper products and more product choices overall. Think about paint, for example.

This is just based on my experience, and I might be wrong, but the customer service at Lowes is way, way, better then the one at Home Depot. And sometimes if the employee listens to you, he can find/suggest you a better product match/better price than what you saw on an ad, for example.

In comparison, not once Home Depot had better customer service. Obviously I worry about pricing, but good customer service might help you save as well.

It is the TOTAL OPPOSITE for me where I live. For years Lowe's was my store, despite horrible horrible customer service (in 3 different towns no less). They cheated me several times as well, regarding "rebates" I never received after tricking me into buying higher priced items.

Well now, I shop EXCLUSIVELY at Home Depot. Two different stores in my area, and both with GREAT customer service, far more choices and better quality. As I said, in my neck of the woods, it is no contest - Home Depot is the all around better store hands down.

Here in the Midwest there is a comparable chain called Menard's; I find Menard's cheaper on lumber.

I guess then it is a local thing, right?

I thought it would be something related to employees having better training somehow, but I am guessing customer service is pretty much a local thing.
