How many people have seen their electricity rates go up? I haven't paid attention, but my electricity bill is essentially the same as last year.
I'm on flat rate average billing for both electricity and gas. Electricity went up, but the gas bill went down, so my total utilities come out to about the same amount. I happen to like it cooler in the winter months, so I know that helps, and in the summer, as long as I get the humidity way down, I don't need the air temps to be super cold, plus I have and use ceiling fans. Airflow is important.
The best thing I ever did was install ceiling fans in every room in my house...about 8-15 days a year, that I need my A/C on. Most of the time, my A/C is not even on. Of course, it depends on where you live as well. It plays a big part. During the summer, the cool breeze usually kicks in after the sun goes down and I leave my bedroom windows open to suck in all the cool air with a box fan.

Yes, they're a big help, and (I hear) cost relatively little to run. I've never tried reversing the direction of the blades for winter, though, supposedly to recirculate the warm air up and around. Has anyone?
We change our fan directions every summer / winter.

Just remember - fans cool people, not rooms. Be sure to turn them off when you leave the room.
Mmmmm. They keep air circulating moving air from outside to in when the windows are open.
I use them when the pellet stove is on to move the warm air from room to room.

Fans move air.
Whether it's a ceiling fan to move air in and around an area, or a whole-house fan to pull existing air up and out through the attic, and pull in new (fresh) air from the outside, through open windows, the inside temps of a dwelling can be better managed with air movement.
Living things benefit from air movement (assuming clean air). People, pets.
I keep my ceiling fans on all the time starting in the spring through the summer and into autumn.

Yes, always. Makes a big difference! Some ceiling fans require climbing a ladder to flip a reverse switch on the fan housing. I always install a ceiling fan with a reverse switch on the remote/ wall control. BTW, you reverse the fan in winter to pull cooler air UP, push warmer air DOWN. Heat rises. Still air tends to be warmest closer to the ceiling.
