Just bought several Kimberly Queen ferns to finish out the new planting bed (for now). They are really filling their five gallon pots. Can I divide them this late in the year before putting them in the ground? They will be in the sun until about noon each day.

You can. Depending on your zone, they aren't cold hardy. They will die if exposed to 20 degree temperatures. A hard frost will kill them back to the roots.
