Suggestions for fence (flower, Clematis, Ivy, backyard)

Would love any suggestions from Northern New Englanders for something that I could plant along my backyard chain link fence. I am in mid Maine. I tried a type of ivy - that turns a gorgeous scarlet in the fall but that just died off after the first season. Not sure if it was the plant or soil or conditions of weather. This fence is 6 feet tall and gets mostly shade.

So far here this spring it looks like a great season for the iris, astillbe, and day lilies. Hosta and the "lawn"is looking great too. We just used feed and weed about a month ago and "very few dandelions so far". Also it's thick and dark green.

Morning glories or Clematis would be beautiful and both like shade!

NOOOOOOoooooooo! Morning Glory is the bane of my garden! That vine is so invasive and impossible to contain. It chokes all my other plants if I'm not out there constantly weeding it out, but it always comes back with a vengeance. I don't care how pretty the flower might be.... Please don't do it!
