In May, we planted watermelon and cantaloupe. Early Spring was quite cool for AZ standards. We are only beginning to see small melons develop, they are around, cherry tomato to golf ball size. Just wondering how other melon growers are doing around the country. What size are your melons at this time of the season? We chose container gardening on the front porch, facing South West sun.
Oh please, is nobody in the gardening forum, growing melons?
Yes, my grandparents are. They have a small garden that includes onions, green beans, peppers, and melons. From what I have seen, they are growing to about the size of a softball. Not really sure what they are using as fertilizer or anything. They are pretty tasty though.
I have cantaloupe and watermelon. Cantaloupe's are big and delicious. I have picked one watermelon, also very juicy and big. I think Dad planted in May also. I don't know why yours are so small. We had a kinda cool spring and a hot summer with lots of rain.
My butternut squash are only NOW starting to flower and set fruit - my canteloupes and watermelons - nothing yet - just foliage.
