Somebody on here this season mentioned an alternative to Roundup which is cheaper. Anybody remember what it is?

Lowe's carries a brand called UltraKill in a red bottle. Spectracide also makes one. I use Ultrakill. It's got the same chemicals as RoundUp, but usually a few bucks cheaper.

Remember, you get what you pay. The cheapest way to go is buy round up pro from a professional landscape supply store and mix your self. More expensive up front but way cheaper per ounce than anything you can buy in a retail store.

RoundUp is glyphosate, but there are many 'generic' brands out there. Wal-Mart sells Eliminator brand which is cheaper. Just make sure the ingredient is glyphosate (preferably 41% concentrate), it's all the same.

I use the Wal Mart brand a lot. I dont think it is quite as good as Roundup but, it is in my price range. I make it a little stronger when I mix it. Dont buy the premix, not strong enough.

Have you tried vinegar?

Try to get some that's at least 10% acetic acid. Or, if you can only find 5%, you will have to do a couple of repeated applications.

It will kill weeds, but it will also kill grass.

I used distilled white vinegar from Heinz, just a few sprays of that killed all my weeds. In a day or two I noticed they were all completely turned to dust. Just pour it directly into a plastic sprayer bottle, spray the whole plant and voila.

A little hint if you are using vinegar. Put a small amount of dawn soap into the spray bottle it help coat the weeds better. You can also reduce the vinegar on the stove by half and create a much stronger acetic acid concentration. Will kill all weeds and plants. Make sure to empty and rinse the spray bottle after every use or the metal spring in the trigger will corrode. Also if you use a reduced mixture don't get it on your skin. Acetic Acid the killing ingredient in the vinegar will only produce a top kill. The weeds will grow back. Glyphosate will kill roots and all.

The vinegar is by far the better idea. Why add more poison to our environment?
We should boycott Roundup.

You could use Chlorix too.

I've killed Palmettos by putting just one ounce of mineral spirits into the bud.
The chlorox didn't work there.
