If this has been answered before, my apologies, but ...
I grew 3 tomato plants this year, and there were way too many for me to eat them all.
Question:
They got nice and ripe (about 4 inch dia on the average), but when they were just about to be picked, many of them were split in some places.
If you wait until they are perfectly ripe on the vine you probably waited too long, if you look at the tomato and think to yourself, "wow, this'll be great tomorrow" then pick it right now. As it ripens it also pulls in more moisture and will split. They will make excellent sandwiches.
