Pecan trees, huh?

If the trees are in a position where the oly way a squirrel can access it is to actually climb the trunk, there's a simple solution.

Obtain some aluminum roof flashing from your local home improvement store and cut a piece 12 inches wide and long enough encircle the trunk. Fasten the metal flashing around the trunk about 4 feet off the ground. If aesthetics are an issue, paint the aluminum to match the cloour of the tree trunk.

If squirrels are jumping from other trees, trim the other trees to close that access, and apply the above solution.

The can trick works great. And, if you stick to safflower seeds you'll be OK as squirrels will not eat them.

My husband bought one of these at an auction. So far, the squirrels have not found it, but I keep hoping! It does not throw them off violently, like that catapult, just spins until they lose their grip and drop the 5 feet or so to the ground.

Smile Keeping squirrels Off.....

Hello,

You may want to search for a birdfeeder that is squirrel proof. You will find many squirrel proof birdfeeders.

Good Luck!

My Dad greases the poles, his holders are hand made of steel, the feeders are suppose to be squirrel proof but they have even jumped from the railing of the deck to the top of the feeder Then he got out the shot gun

I got "hot" seed to put in my feeders. This really works. It is more expensive, but then again, you don't have to keep filling feeder up with regular seed - which ends up costing the same. The squirrels have destroyed my deck, plants and even eaten the paint off of my pots. It was horrible. However, this has worked for me.

I had two bird feeders on 4 foot poles and had a terrible time with the squirrels taking all the food, and knocking it all over the ground. I finally put up squirrel baffles and they worked great. I then put up a separate feeder just for them, as I am such an animal lover.

It does depend of course on whether you have a place to put a pole that is say 10' from anything they can jump from but while expensive I've never had problems with squirrels if you go to one of the professional bird shops and buy one of their set ups. Pole in ground, good baffle to keep squirrel going up pole, set up far enough away from any jumping zones and my problems have been over.
For a wood pole set up, again far away from jumping platforms, you can get some roofing tin at a hardware store, cut it so you can wrap it around the wood and screw it on, make sure you put up enough lengthwise on the post so they cant stretch across it.

My dad uses one of the metal Slinkys. Works good for him. Had so much fun with a Slinky growing up that, when I went to get him one for the feeder, I bought an extra just for me! lol

Default neighbors cats

my problem isn't squirrels-it's my neighbors cats that sit under the feeders ...waiting.
I deplore irresponsible animal owners. Cat owners-keep your cats inside!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!
