A bag or bags of good compost worked into your soil is always good..read the lable and get compost with worm casings , bat poop and other organic material..I work bags of compost into my flower beds almost every year and have good worms and other good stuff that the plants like.
An even better idea is start your own compost pile. We have one here and I love it. Everything goes into it, such as potato peels, banana peels, orange skins, apple cores, all veges and fruits found rotten in a bag, even paper can be put in. I have horses next door, and yep, I add horse fertilizer as well. We believe in recycling and what better way then to give back to Mother Earth what she has given to us?
I use a combination of peat moss, compost and soil to fill in my gardens.
