I believe that is called phlox. They bloom once in the spring and then provide a groundcover. They have really spread since we planted them a couple of years ago.

Yay!! I was beginning to worry for you - up on the arctic tundra. Well that and the fact that the Tigers and the Twins are LAST in the division -- with the Indians and the Royals leading....
What kinda topsy turvy world has this turned into? (by the way - since I started this thread I give permission to occassionally mention Baseball teams -- as Baseball teams are definitely apart of SPRING!)
My Jane magnolia burst into full glory - late in the afternoon before the current storm of the century hit. So now its been rained on (hard) for 1.5 days. I wonder what it will look like when the rain finally stops! Hopefully, just a bit bedraggled.
The Daffs are all in bloom and with the unseasonable heat over the weekend (preceding said storm) -- the tulip buds grew about 4" and the peonies went from 1.5" high red "eyes" to 8" high stalks with leaves! Really dramatic. I should have had a time lapse camera set up, because I swear you could have seen the growth with the naked eye they grew that much in one day.
The honeysuckle and lilac have leafed out entirely. The Ash tree's leaf buds are so big it looks like pingpong balls hanging all over the tree. The 12' horsechestnut leaves are out --- stupid thing was too fast for me, I didn't get it sprayed to prevent blight. *sigh*. I saw one bloom open on the sweet cherry...
Today is supposed to be cool - low 50's (after the rain) with lows back in the 30's tonight. Then the rest of the week is to be seasonable (low-mid 60's) with lows in the 40's. I'm hoping this cool weather will preserve the flowers for a week or two. I just love it when you have that one or two days when EVERYTHING is in bloom (the early stuff isn't done blooming yet, and the late stuff is just starting)...
Then - if the sun comes back out (we have gotten 2" of rain in the past 30 hours!!!) - I can get a nice picture.
Congrats on the flowers lightshimmer ... I'm hoping the rest of the tundra thaws soon and the Tigers and Twins can remember how to play the game!
My Daffodils are about done here in Denver, but my Tulips haven't bloomed yet. I was hoping they'd all bloom together... I forget if that ever happens!
We're finally seeing some flowering trees in SE Pa. Magnolias, weeping cherries, some tall trees with purple blossoms that I think are pear trees. The mountians are still brown and bare but in the valleys where the sun hits them we're seeing green. especially on the ornamentals. Monday was 84 degrees, we're paying for that with two days of a cold rain.
I am very (incredibly, stupendously, deliriously) happy to report that Spring has FINALLY reached Northern MN
We had our first thunderstorm yesterday with an all day soaker. Woke up this morning to find the patches of my yard that weren't completely underwater have green grass starting to pop up. Calling for a high of 51 today, 60's tomorrow and NO SNOW predicted ANYWHERE on the extended forecast.
The daily rounds of the gardens searching for the early bulbs and johnny jump ups have started I will be sane for the next 10 months or so now, I'm sure of it. lol.
I love irises, they're scented too. I have a couple of clematis flowering right now and they tell me it's spring! I love it!
