I was in New Rochelle, NY (NYC Suburb) by the water and saw this... About the only thing around. Everything still bare.

In shade they were closed.

Within minutes of the sun coming out, they opened.

Here in Dallas, the redbud and magnolia are in bloom. Last week we mowed the lawn for the first time this year...the lawn was loaded with ajuga in bloom. Spring came very early this year!

Very cool! What planting zone is London? You have many of the same plants in bloom as here in coastal GA, zone 8. I would have thought that London was still in the dead of winter.

The central area is 9b, the suburbs are 9a.

At Heathrow Airport (right at the edge of the city), the coldest night of the winter typically gets down to -5c (23f). In the centre of the city, the coldest night is usually between -2c and 0c (28-32f). January average high/low is 47/36f.

We are only in heat zone 2 though (hottest day most summers is 32c/90f - July average is 75/57f), so lots of Mediterranean plants do well, but plants that need lots of heat aren't as common (eg, phoenix canariensis can thrive here, but phoenix dactylifera won't grow).

I just finished looking at the entire array of flowers on display in SW London. Soooooo jealous.

But here, we did have temperatures close to 70/20C today, which broke all previous records, I would think.

March is usually snowy and cold but we always say, "It's March. It can snow but the snow won't last."

Nothing is in bloom but I've heard that some people have snowdrops coming up early.

My garden soil seems workable but I know better than to take that seriously. Ol' Man Winter will have the last laugh.

Was out yesterday and noticed some of the Canadian red maples were flowering, as well as a Pussywillow. Lilac's buds looked close to opening also. I'm kind of glad it cooled down now, hopefully things won't leaf out way too early and then get fried by a deep freeze like back in 2012!

Amazing, how 6 years ago, when this thread 1st appeared, that this year almost mirrors it, so far. Speaking from an East Tennessee perspective that is.

We're in Indiana and the maple trees in our yard started budding a couple of weeks ago in early/mid February. It was 75 degrees here yesterday! In Indiana, in February! Of course, it's now 35 today (but warming up again soon).

By the way, am I the only one from the Midwest who remembers when birds flew south for the winter? Nobody talks about that. We never had ducks and geese in the winter when I was a kid. You could set your clocks by their migratory patterns. Now, all of the migratory birds are here year-round.

Tree's budding here in New Jersey, and it was in the 70's the last 2 days, colder today.

Azaleas are in full bloom here, also saw a few redbuds and native plums flowering yesterday. Red maples started flowering about two weeks ago.
