Did I trim my 2 crepe myrtles correctly? I left 2-3 sprouts per branch and trimmed the other ones that were going inward or toward other sprouts. I didn't cut off the flowers at the top. I have committed "crepe murder" in the past, but I want them to get taller and thicker, so I'm trying to do it the right way.
Sorry for the crappy pictures, I took them with my phone.
Don't top your crepe myrtles. I know it is the norm, but they are so much prettier when allowed to grow tall and droopy. Just keep limbing them up and over time they will develop into beautiful trees. People tend to think they will only bloom if butchered, but this is not the case. This is my mom's pet peeve. She calls the topping practice crepe murder.

Ours have never been cropped or butchered. They are getting very tall too!
You won't want to top them again. The video posted earlier was right about not topping, but the lady's advice was still somewhat amateur.
Did you see where two large limbs were removed in the video? That was 50% to 60% volume removal from the one trunk they were on. Not a good approach.
The other amateur thing was the comment about removing ANY or ALL of diseased or crossing, etc.. Proper pruning does not remove any or all in the same session, every time.
One tip, is that not every problem should be removed immediately. It's not comprehensive like a book, but has quite a few unique suggestions.
