This is one of our favorite days of the year. There are 10 yards of mulch waiting to top the new beds.

Does anyone else get as excited about mulch as my husband and me? I mean, besides all the neighborhood kids running up and down the pile.

I am sooo jealous!!!! Mulch for me is Mothers Day.... and after yesterdays 5" of snow who knows? But I always get a "little kid' kind of excitement too. I always grill outside on those days and am so happy to have the windows open and smell fresh mulch. Uh-oh! I might be a gardening weirdo???? mulch as an aphrodisiac! lol

Mulch day here is after the rains... maybe May. I sure don't get too excited, it is just a bunch of work.

We started mulch day with 10 bags of it from Lowe's only to figure out that we need a LOAD of it delivered! Ugh.

Never bought this much mulch at once, curious to know how much I should expect to pay for black mulch?

Its true - the littlest thing in the garden makes me happy. And, I am lucky to be able to say that.

Have you called anyone around you to see if they even offer black mulch in bulk? Markhams, where we buy our mulch, lists it on their website, but they do not always have everything listed. They are in Huntersville, so would probably deliver to you. We have paid less from other places, but the quality wasn't there. This year - 10 yards shredded hardwood was $23 yard plus $70 delivery.

How much mulch was in each bag from Lowe's? Its been years since I bought bagged, but I think its about 3 cubic feet. That means 1 yard bulk is about 9 bags.

You also have to pay extra for delivery. And, ask if there is a price break point. Sometimes its worth getting a little more to pay less per yard.

Good luck!

No, I don't think your weird at all!

Mother's Day here is Peony time. We always landscape late March and put anuals out mid April, so by Mother's Day, we are sitting around enjoying everything.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm going to call a couple of places tomorrow that I've seen from the road that have black mulch in bulk. Good to know the yard to bag conversion. The bags have 2 cu. ft. actually, so would that mean its really around 13.5 bags?

We'll probably need between 10-12 yards as well. Dreading that. haha

yep, today was dump the new top soil, weed and get ready including the compost. We didn't spread all the top soil, but will in the next few days, depending on the weather. And then, in goes the seeds and some seedlings. On top will go the hay to control some of the weeds.
