I'd say no. They seem to like that elusive, moist well-drained soil. I have had one for a few years...it is now about 9 ft tall! I water it during dry spells and give it plant food when it is bearing fruit. The plant may survive, but it seems to do well with ample water in terms of fruit. Of course...too much rain or water seems to make the fruit flavorless...
