we can laugh, but that crossed my mind.... actually I think they are lemon cukes, even though they are closer to a light green, almost white. That is something I would be inclined to order, just to be different and except for the color they do look like a lemon cuke...Whatever, they are feeding us and we haven't died yet. or and I serve them at room temp, leaving them on the counter for awhile.
When I was a kid in So Ca we had about an acre of land, all fruit trees including a Fig tree. I loved figs, I would eat them until I got sick but I don't think I have seen one or had one in 40 years, other than dried figs. Boy do I wish we had a fig tree...

Figs are yummy! My daughter got her shipment of them last week at her health food store, and I'm always there to help unpack the dried fruit, dates and figs! I had to sample some of them (quality control, you know). I wish we could grow them here.

We lived in So Ca most of our childhood and young adult years and could get dates for almost nothing, figs were a little more. We used to go to the desert to see my mother in law and stop along the way at our favorite date store. They carried more than just dates, but they were known for the dates. It wasn't really a health food store, the term wasn't used back then, but it did have nothing but fresh and dried fruits and veggies.. We would buy the dates and make date cookies or date nut bread for Christmas gifts. Last time we were through the area about 6 years ago, the store was gone. Oh, there was a small place there, but nothing like what I remember.

Maybe you can still get one. I got a "chicago hardy" fig from Lowes in Spring. It probably cost around $10...It has little figs on it, so you probably wouldn't have to wait years to taste a fresh one again. I love figs, too...I usually get them from Wholefoods.
I expanded the chicken scratching area into the location where I'd planted the fig tree... The chickens dug it out of the ground. They're like little garden demons, but they're so funny. The tree's potted, and I'll probably keep it inside this winter, but it may be worth a try next year.
