^^^ Thank you both, I am heading out first thing in the morning to remove most of the leaves off my lonely okra plant. I have harvested only 6 pods so far.

I did end up clipping some of the leaves and I have plenty of okra; too much truthfully. Whether it helped or hurt I don't know: I know you guys know more about this than I do.

Too bad you are too far from me Nita, I would be happe to pick some from you. I just trimmed the leaves as well and supported the plant after it tumbled from the storm last night, so I am looking forward to my big harvest.

I installed nine Clemson Spineless yesterday along with an assortment of watermelons. I missed the seed window due to an ill-fated Brussells sprouts attempt and therefore had to put down started plants.
Anyone else have their okra coming up?

The tips are the first thing to get too hard. As long as you can gently bend it, it's ok to leave, but once the pods start getting firm on the tips, it's time to cut. You'l get so that you can guess a day or so ahead of time.

I planted okra in a passive hydroponic system this year and it has done exceptional. I put them in tree planting tubes, the smaller ones, 3 in wide x 6 inch long, packed them into a 10 inch net pot ( 3 will fit), watered and fertilized them from the top until the roots reached the bottom of the net basket, then put Dyna Grow in the water under the net basket. I keep the medium in the tubes damp but other than that, and topping off the Dyna Grow, it has been a very easy keeper. Once they started to bloom, I switched to Dyna Bloom

I'm a veggie person but okra is the leper of the vegetable world. Vile weed.
