The land grant university or extension services publish a soil temp map that is generally within spec' for planting and applications.

Home Page | State Climate Office of North Carolina poke around this site for temps. They might also have guidence for weed control.

OK- so now I have snowdrops open and numerous daffodils about 6 inches through the ground and one flower open on the Camelia.
There are buds on my lilacs, dogwoods, blueberry and burning bush. The Mahonias are flowering -probably more but haven't scrutinised the whole yard.
The chickweed is prolific

What's gonna happen to these plants if we have a cold snap?
Have had maybe 4 nights so far below freezing, but just below and probably just for 2-3 hrs.

I aerated and overseeded in October and Fescue germinated and is still growing. Unfortunately the "Spring" weeds are very apparent and also growing-particularly chick weed.
Can I put weed and feed on now? I prefer this to using liquid spray on weed killer which seems to take 3 applications to kill the weeds.
Now is a good time to apply Weed n Feed.
