My amaryllis from last Christmas has been outside all summer. It has a few green leaves. What is the procedure now for letting it rest so it will bloom again? Do I leave it outside until the leaves die back as long as it doesn't get frozen, or what?

From an encyclopedia I have on plants,
Amaryllis-Frost hardy, but in cool areas should be grown against a south facing wall for protection.Propagate by division in late spring.as leaves die down,or in late summer before growth recommences
Hope this is helpful.

Thanks, but I know what I have is not frost hardy, is treated as a house plant, and must go through a dormant period before it blooms.

I got this plant as a gift. It was packaged for forcing. Followed all the directions and it pushed out one bud at the base while leaves were still very small. That bud dried up in a matter of days (the bud was a dud?) and leaves continued to grow. It looks healthy, has very long leaves, but never bloomed again. I just brought it inside and put it in a westerly sunny window. Will it ever bloom again, does it need transplanting, or shall I just consider it a loss and toss it?

It all depends on what part of the country you're in right now. Most of the south and southwest are experiencing a late warmer than normal fall, so many plants are still flourishing instead of getting ready for the dormant winter period.

I have been withholding water for about a month now and the leaves are starting to die back. I'm putting in a cool place where it won't freeze for a few months and then I think when I start to water it again, it might bloom. We'll see.

It's been a test of patience...I put the plant in a sunny window and kept it watered. Last week I noticed a bud! It will be blooming!!! Yeaah.....!! Thanks, all. It's been over a year since it first bloomed, and without you I would have tossed it out. I'm tickled pink.

Should I cut any of the leaves? I haven't done that yet.
