Daughter wanted to sell some sunflowers yesterday. Cut some for her put in a bucket and within 15 min they looked horrible. About half hour into it petals were falling off. Any suggestions? Should I put something in the water to help?

IDK what would help.

I bought some sunflowers at the grocery store a week ago, and they still look great. I did not put anything into the water.

cut them first thing in the morning, never in the heat of the day. keep them in shade, some put aspirin in water or gingerale. some buy powder at florists. mine last long time without anything but new water every morning.

Use a sharp knife or blade to cut and make a diagonal cut and immediately put them into water.

For cut flowers, I put a teensy bit of bleach and sugar in the water. I think the bleach is to kill bacteria and the sugar's to provide nutrients.
