Maybe a couple of days for me. I root them all summer long and stick them in containers with my other plants. I don't do anything special, either. Just cut some, peel a couple of leaves off and put them in water.

Just wondering if you are trying to root one in water or in a soiless media? From a "sweet potato" or an Ipomoea cutting? Are you trying to get tubers (sweet potatoes) or trying to get the decorative vines? There are so many decorative Ipomoea batatas on the market today and they are very easy to root under the right conditions, spring works best to start cuttings for the average homeowner. Simple rule is warm soil, long day indirect light, don't let them wilt. If you have a plant and are wanting to take cuttings from it, perhaps you should put it off for the winter (don't know where you are) and take your cuttings when your plant starts activly growing new shoots in the spring. If you do have a "plant" in the spring don't let the vine trail or fall down,,,keep it horizontal and you will get new growth at every node (where the leaves attach to the vine) and you can get a multitude of cutting from them then! Hope this helps a little.
