I would give almost anything if those X-Hoses worked the way the commercials say they do...but I'm assuming they're not very good. Or is it Flex Hose? It's the one that collapses into almost nothing when you shut off the water.
I know! The reviews are horrid, but I'm tempted every time I see the ad.
Also don't make the mistake of buying those sleek "soaker" hoses. I saw that they were flat, cloth, and cheaper, so I picked one up. I did not realize "soaker hose" means it is made to leak from the sides for the entire length of the hose!
I agree with this. I just picked up a 75ft Never Kink from Lowes for $32. It does cost a little more than other hoses, but it has visibly heavier duty connectors, a coiled metal housing near the spigot connection, and the hose itself is pretty stiff -- which helps stop kinks and makes it easier to wind up when you're done. My only complaint is that it's grey and I feel like garden hoses should be green!
I bought the never kink. what a joke. It immediately kinked. I couldn't use it without it kinking. I returned it & bought an industrial hose at Costco.

Me too! I would love a garden hose like that if it REALLY worked like it does in the commercials.

The other major complaint about all of the hoses like that was that the fittings on the ends were really flimsy.....they broke off easily or leaked badly.
Another common complaint was that the body of the hose was so thin that it tore and got holes in it easily.

Maybe the ones sold at Costco aren't the same brand as theones at HD and Lowes. The fittings on our Neverkink hoses are rock solid.

I have to agree with Tina on this. The fittings are definitely heavy duty on mine. And the hose itself is pretty sturdy, too. It would take considerable effort for me to intentionally kink it, unlike typical hoses that you can just bend and crimp.
My water spigot still leaks a little bit at the valve's stem, but that has nothing to do with the hose. I wonder if some people confuse that for the hose leaking.
Go to Sears and get a 50' Craftsman 5/8" Black Rubber hose. It won't kink or break. The ends are plated brass. It is guaranteed for life. Cost you about $35, although they were recently on sale for under $30.
I have five of them, the oldest is creeping up on ten years. The only drawback is that as they age the rubber gets black on your hands--so you use gloves when handling it.
I have seen similar at garden centers and they usually come in a light brown color. Don't know if they are guaranteed the way the Craftsman product is, however.
The hose I'm currently using is quite old and has become very cumbersome to use. It is constantly bending and crimping and the rubber has become very stiff. I don't need anything fancy, but does anyone have a recommendation on a certain type of hose that won't bend or crimp and cut off the water?
If you regularly "neatly" roll up your hose, perhaps you should try the following kind of expanding hose.
My mom recently got one and it works great.
I do (NOT) recommend buying from the people in the following link. I just saw a expanding hose at The Home Depot yesterday.
not sure the brand, but my aunt has an "expanding" hose and loves it
I needed a relatively short, narrow hose and picked up one made by GatorHyde - i've been impressed by pretty much everything related to this hose
