White washing a brick walkway? (feedback, cover, orange, house)

We have ugly brick-- a mixture of red/orange. I hate it. House is yellow (painted ugly brick covered up looks beautiful.)I want to make the walkway blend more with the house and thought that whitewashing might do the trick.

I love working with paint and think I could do the whitewash with the paint version, but I'm thinking you shouldn't do this on a walkway--is this right?

If you've done whitewash on a brick patio, can you please give me any feedback on the process you used, please?
