The "sheep-eating" plant Puya chilensis has bloomed for the first time after 15 years growing in the U.K.

The "sheep-eating" plant Puya chilensis has bloomed for the first time at the Royal Horticultural Society's Garden Wisley in the U.K.

In its native Chile, Puya chiensis uses its enormous neon spikes to trap sheep in the Andes mountains. After razor-sharp spines on the tips of its leaves ensnare the animal, it starves to death and decomposes at the base of the plant, becoming its favored fertilizer.

Bit of a non story really, it may be the first time one has flowered at Wisley, but they flower fairly frequently outdoors in a number of gardens in milder parts of the UK...

[no kudzu]

Kudzu is known as the House Eating vine in the South. Just ride down any interstate in N.C. and you can see old barns or houses completely devoured by it. However said structures do not decompose and feed the kudzu. Kudzu does not need any thing to grow at all, in fact it defies are manner of trying to kill it.
