Texas Sage is really nice, and loves your climate. Bright purple flowers that hummingbirds love, if you're into that.

I grow it, and at least in my climate DJ, I have to cut it back to ground level twice a year, forcing the plant to reflower. The root ball might get larger, but that can be trimmed up as well. Sorry I have no other suggestions for you. Good luck finding what suits you.

Not enough information.
How big is a "decent size" pot? Can you describe the dimensions (depth, width, capacity)?
Do you want a plant for outdoors or indoors?
If it's for outdoors, will it be placed in full sun, full shade, or both?

I was thinking maybe something like this Best roses for containers - Amateur Gardening but I don't know how well they grow in the Texas climate.

TX mountain laurels. Or at least that is what we call them here.

The flowers look kind of like wisteria but smell like grape soda.

Pot dimensions? Need to make sure you have a big enough one to support such a shrub. Even so, you'll probably need to root prune or repot every few years at least. Sun?
