My grocery store meat has this moisture absorbing mat between the meat and the tray. When I tear open the mat it has these flecks that swell up when wet. I've added some to my potted ornamental plants (repotted with this stuff mixed into soil)and I don't have to water as often. I use the pot weight method to know when to re-water.

I would be reluctant to use these on plants that give me stuff to eat. I don't know how long they will last either.

I hope my plants don't develop a taste for meat and a "Little Shop of Horrors" situation develops!

You've found out how they grow carnivorous plants!!!

The blood from the meat us also cheap blood meal, too, if you're being super cheap.

Their longevity will depend on the size of the "kernels" and how frequently they're agitated/broken down in the soil. The plastic polymers found in these packs are very fine--they will probably disperse in a container at season's end.
