Hello. I live in Ft Lauderdale on a canal and daily I see a few iguanas out and about in my backyard. I want to start gardening back there but I'm concerned about them eating my crops. To start off I'd like to try my hand at growing some herbs, tomatoes and some greens.

What are my options?

None. Nothing will keep out or control the iguanas! Just grow twice what you expect and get used to sharing what is there.
Do you live on the water?

she typed she lives on a canal which is a man made water way so to speak and to the op yeah I don't think you will keep much outside so try container gardening they do have a lot of dwarf tomatoes and herbs and such to grow in containers .

I could never live in Florida! Too many creepy-crawlys I keep hearing from a couple friends who live inthe Tampa area about the poisonous frogs, snakes, gators, bugs, etc. that keep them from even using their back yards. Blech!

That's why I loved living in coastal SoCal. You have the benefit of being able to grow most any tropical vegetation, minus the humidity, snakes, bugs, etc.

Gee, and I thought I had problems with roving raccoons and annoying squirrels. How about a greenhouse?

let us face it if you have creeply crawleys , gators , snakes , etc then you need to think about patio gardening and or container gardening with dwarf plants . I have done so for the last year and a half .

I had to chuckle at this. I think your friends in Tampa are over exaggerating. I lived on the east coast of Florida and the only thing that kept me from using my back yard was the heat and the mosquitos in the evening. Yes Florida has everything you listed, but it isn't like they are covering the grass.
