My mom's memory is no longer good enough to help me out with this. I have a hanging begonia I really love, and I would like to have it hanging outside next year too if possible. Other than bringing it indoors for the winter is there anything special I have to do? Does a tender begonia need a winter rest period? Does it need to be divided and replanted? Any other tricks?

first question: where do you live and how severe are the winters?

I'm in lower Michigan -- the winters are brutal. Even without last winter's polar vortex we usually get about a week every winter with double-digit negative temps.

I found this site which seems quite informative, but after reading it I can say I never knew there were so many types of begonias! Hope this helps.

That is a great site, and it would be even better if the begonia I bought had a tag on it saying what it was! Googling makes it look most like a tuberous, so winter dormancy is most likely what I need to proceed with. Thanks!
