I am going to plant 6 trees or shrubs groomed into trees about 8 feet apart. I'm looking at planting about 3-4 Dwarf Burford Hollies and then 2-3 of something else to mix it up.

Here are my wants:
  • Bushy privacy about 5-10 ft tall and wide
  • Evergreen
  • Full sun
  • Will be planted in a large box with open bottom
  • Medium grower that won't take years to grow a foot
  • Non-invasive (no privet or bamboo)

I'm currently looking at Camellia Sasanqua, Cherry Laurel, Sweet Olive (I'm worried it won't survive winters), Dwarf Weeping Cherry, or maybe Wax Myrtle.

I'm having difficulty figuring out what would look good together. Help!

I am in north Georgia and have one caution about wax myrtle. Mine were planted in the early 1990s and allowed to get fairly tall. They experienced pretty severe damage from the weight of snow when we had the snow storm here in 1993 and again this past winter. You might get advice about how to prune them if you decide to use them.

What zone are you in? All of those plants sound like they would survive in zones 6 or warmer, I would offer additional suggestions for all of your decisions for plants but I know that The Nellie Stevens Holly grows rapidly and can get quite large and the Golden Euonymus probably wouldn't grow as fast as you'd like in your zone, I take it you live in at least a zone 6, maybe warmer?

The cherry laurel is very hardy and at least in my experience both I my former home and new home here, they seem to have few pests. Even winter burn form frost or snow doesn't seem to really be a problem. I am not sure if they will grow to the height that you are wanting they to attain.

I ended up buying 2 "Ilex Cornuta" Burford Holly, 3 Cleyera Japonica, and 1 Sweet Olive. All are 10 gallon and about 3-4 feet tall. I can't wait to plant them.

Probably a good thing you'd didn't get Wax Myrtle, I don't think they'd be happy in planter boxes for very long, they get big quickly.
