I know nothing about orchids so I may use incorrect words in this Post, but here is my question anyway. We have a potted orchid that is several years old and about four years ago it started blooming and last year the stems started branching and the new branches had blooms, in fact, I just noticed a new branch is now covered with buds. I have Posted a photo of the blooms for identification, and a photo of the subject of this Post. About a month ago at the fork of a main stem and a branch, a green bud appeared. As it developed it soon became obvious it looked like the "mother" plant with the same shaped leaves and air roots. It is dark green but not as dark as it appears in the photo. So my question is; What should we do with this "baby" plant? Any advice will surely be appreciated.
That's called a "keiki" - Hawaiian for "baby." Cut it from the parent stem and plant it when 2 or 3 roots grow at least three inches in length. Remove about an inch of stem with the baby plant.
