Craftsman 42" mower was chopping when cutting and the blades are fine, is it normally the deck or the spindle housing that holds the blades when it chops up one side of the grass and not the other.
I had a mower repairman show up and he told me the deck needs replaced as it is bent, so not believing him I paid another 40 bucks for another one to show up and he told me it was the spindle which was 275.00 installed.
I just checked ebay and they are being sold for anywhere between 25-100 for these.
The first guy said the deck was bent but the second never mentioned that at all. Suggestions please?

Belt drive, might not make much difference if it is bent other than an uneven cut and a tad more belt wear. Goes to show that mower decks are being made out of too thin a gauge of metal. The spindle or mandrel can have the bolts seize. Make sure you can get it loose before ordering a new one. Used lawnmower and engine shops sometimes have complete used decks for less than the cost of a new mandrel.

None of the local mower shops have any mower decks. Suggestions on where to find one? Thanks

Check the local craigslists and place a wanted ad there with a small finders fee. Usually the people who have this type of stuff live outside of city limits and do repairs as a part-time local service. If you are willing to deal with the hassle and cost of shipping, a famous online auction site currently has one as well as the individual spindles.

I have a 42inch craftsman mowing deck. It cuts lower on one side. There is no knob to adjust to level the cuts. How do you adjust?

Usually the hangers have a turnbuckle type of adjustment. If you don't have these, you may have a part that bent. One thing to check is the tires and front axles. You may also be able to shim underneath one blade.

First I've seen one of those. Looks like it helps push the clippings out through the side without getting stuck on the grass near the chute and creating clogs or clots of grass, especially with wet or tall grass. If you remove it your hair may fall out - or not.
