a couple of weeks ago my brother was telling me that he had saved some tomato seeds onto a paper coffee filter and he forgot about them so he cut around each individual seed and planted it into his pots and now he has tomatoe plants ...so it must work he just planted the seed with the paper piece and wallah he has tomato plants .

That does work, but the problem is that most of the better tomatoes are hybrids so what he gets is not going to be the same as the tomato it came out of. Of course, there's a chance it will be better, and it will be fun to find out.
