Has anyone tried this? I'm trying to germinate some dates and plan to eventually pot them and plant them outside once they are large enough. I've been reading that date palms (phoenix dactylifera) do not like any kind of humidity, and will struggle to survive. On the other hand, these trees appear to grow in places such as New Orleans, which are humid.
The Canary Island date palm enjoys a bit of humidity and grows here comfortably, and is hardy to the same temperature as the true date palm.
