I wish more schools in America had programs like this. Kids absolutely love gardening. They are fscinated with worms and bugs and watching things grow from seed. it is such a treat to see the smiles on their faces when they see what they can produce. Then they get involved in cooking. Even though many of us teach this at home think how many can be reached if it was part of every kids school day?

Our local elementary schools still do a program with planting seeds, and moving some of them into the planters to grow. Most go home with the kids, because by the time any vegetables plants would start to blossom school is out for the summer. At the high schools there are horticulture programs, and they even have greenhouses.

My granddaughter, who is in FL and is a kindergartner, has gardening class every Monday morning, 45 minutes before classes start. The little ones start out with radishes and then carrots and lettuce. As they get older they advance to other plants. She loves it.
