Is it weed-eated or weed-ate, if one refers to weed-eating in the past tense?

Anyway, I'm a new lover of rodgersia, having planted it last year. I was from head-to-toe elated when I saw them emerge this spring! I have so very much enjoyed watching the amazing growth, even noticeable within a single day.

AND THEN MY HUSBAND STRUCK THEM DOWN!

He got a little overzealous with the weed-eater this weekend. Why there, I do not know. Because there are only plants there. The weeds, which he did not weed-eat, are across the walkway from this.

SO MY QUESTION TODAY IS...
will the rodgersia come back from its root stock, or is it done?

Truly grateful for thoughts and helps.

Not sure, bit I think it spreads by rhizomes. Unless he dug them up it should grow back. Eventually.

My husband weed-chomped a beautiful blooming red sage. What th' &*#$????

I hope your plants come back. Mine was done for.

Do you think he did it on purpose? You mention that he didn't weed-eat the actual weeds across the way...

My husband isn't allowed to touch the weed wacker.
Just the lawn mower, where he is allowed to mow the lawn.
Seriously, don't even let him touch it.
It will preserve your marriage.

tee hee

Men tend to go crazy with power tools. They like to jump on riding lawnmowers and make lots of noise and ride em cowboy around the yard. Ever hear one on a chainsaw? The say they are revving the engine to keep it from dying but I don't buy that. I've used a chain saw without all the death defying noise.
I too have had trouble with a weed whacking husband. They must be carefully supervised.

Indeed, by rhizomes...it will probably come back, if not cut to ground, and conditions are ripe for it.
May take all growing season for it to recoup. If it likes where it is and conditions are good, it should flourish and spread/multiply.

We had several varietals at our NY house, near a stream. They were tough, even in Zone 5.

Omg, that reminds me of the time my husband rototilled my heirloom delphiniums from my grandmother. Oooh, mad? You betcha. I was strong however and stopped short of throwing the hand trowel at him. Your rodgersia should be fine.

Most chainsaw have a centrifugal clutch that keeps the engine from dying when the blade gets stuck. However, most are also two sroke, and like weed eaters, must be started with the choke closed, then partially open, before open completely, a two stroke power tool running with a partially open choke is prone to dying with too much, or sometimes(if being used with partial open choke, until.it's warmed up) not enough throttle. It it's like my dads crappy 25cc weedeater, a patch of dandilions could stall it out.
