Hi everyone, I just bought a house with a lawn sprinkler system. I've never owned a sprinkler let alone a lawn, and I have a few questions on it.

I had intended not to use it this season, and perhaps never, to save on the start up and winterizing costs. However, I just got a letter from the city that states I'm required to do backflow testing on the sprinkler yearly, which, I assume, would put water into the system which then necessitates that it be winterized.

I'm wondering if there is any way to get out of the testing requirement? (Or am I undervaluing what a sprinkler can do?)

If the back-flo was installed correctly there is no need to charge the whole system. There should be a shutoff just after the b/f so no water gets into the lines while the test is being done.
