Hello,

So moving into my boyfriends apartment he has this nearly dead fern that last winter just shed all over the place. All of his plants were near death. I trimmed them all and they're all doing pretty well now since last winter.

His Kimberly queen fern though, I trimmed most of it in the winter but most of the fern was just dead/brown shards of old fronds I couldn get to. It seemed to like the cuttings and a couple new fronds grew except there was just a huge mess of old compacted fronds that I feel were in the way of new growth.

After seeing a man on YouTube cut back the entire plant I decided that i would do the same. So I took scissors and cut everything. I tried to trim down the old/dead fronds as much as I could but it was so compacted. I can't even see the soil.

Did I just kill the poor thing? Will it regrow even though it's now summer? Should I keep it in the bathroom for humidity? I'm really clueless right now and could use some tips to help this poor thing that I feel I just slaughtered. I miss it already lol.

By the way, the picture of the fern I trimmed it a bit more than that.

Please help!

I had 2 kimberly queen ferns that were beautiful on either side of my east facing front door. They lasted all summer and fall and then I put them in the garage for the winter. They were fine until I thought the cold snap was over, put them back out and what do you know, we had a hard freeze. It burned both of them entirely and I thought they were dead so I put them out in the wood pile to throw them out. Low and behold, they started to come back. I cut all the brown off and now they are doing very well, but it is slow going. We had over 25 plus days of rain in a row and it apparently did them good. I'm so glad I didn't get rid of them. I see some green in your picture so I think it will do ok but I don't know about the humidity on the bathroom...we don't get alot of humid days here. Mine were outside and got about 4 hours of morning sun. Do you have a place outside to put them? Someone else may be able to give you a better answer. Good luck!

Okay, that's good to hear! I've read a lot of times that ferns like humidity, low light, and bathrooms. I just don't know about this particular fern. I currently have it near a window for sun.
