Two of them showed up in my garden. I don't recognize them as a weed in our area. (but it could be).

whatever it is, it's ugly. yank it out unless you think it has potential. Remember a weed is anything at all you don't want growing in your yard. I wouldn't want that.

Looks like it may be one of the thistle varieties, possibly globe thistle.

Yeah... I'm thinking yellow starthistle... Can you tell if it's got little pokey spikes around the flower head..?
