Any idea what is eating this? What can I use to safely eliminate the pest? Thanks!

Ugh. Better to eliminate the laurel. This is a plant I do not like. Problem solved.

I'm not a huge fan either. It had a tough time with the winter. Why don't you like it?

It looks like it's stress related, and has nothing to do with pests at all. I had one in the front yard that was in an area a little to open, and a little more sun than it should get. This past winter sucked the life out of it, and basically looked like yours on a worse scale. In the early spring I moved it to a better protected area with a greater amounts of shade. It is now filling out with nice lush green leaves, and seems much better health wise.

edit: They really prefer a N/E exposure. Anything else, and they will never really preform well.
