Help Me ID This Cocoon (sorry for the incomplete title!)

It's hanging from the arm of one of my weathered Adirondack chairs in the front of my house. It's about 2.25 inches long from top of the "stem" to the bottom of the thing.

I looked on bugguide.net and it seems to maybe be a bagworm cocoon, but I'm not sure.

Anyone ever seen one of these before?

Bag worm it is. They are pretty dominate here this year also on Long Island. Cut them off, and trash em.

I will surely pull it and throw it out.

It's not really close to any trees, but I have some bushy reed type grasses close. Plenty of trees in the yard, though.

Now is a bagworm the same as the fuzzy black and white caterpillers I associate with the huge tents of them that I remember from growing up in CT? Because the pictures of the worms themselves that I saw online don't look like that at all.

And I didn't realize (never really thought about it) that those made cocoons....

No they are not the same, but these will do damage to nearby leafy plants/bushes. Do you have any type of junipers, and or Dappled Willows in your yard? Munch munch.

Mmmmm. Nope, don't think so. Oak, Southern Magnolia, Crepe Myrtle. Possibly Live oak next door. No willows or junipers.

Anyway, I pulled it off and put it in the garbage. Dang it was hard to pull off!!

Thanks for all the replies!
