You could call the gas company. They might have someone come out and look for free. They usually will send someone out to mark where the lines run before you start digging.

This. OP you and I have the same utility company being as we are in NorCal.

Call PGE and ask for a free safety check tell them your worried about an old gas service install.. Be there when they show up and ask all sort of questions. Take that information and use it when negotiating with plumbing contractors and electrical.

With that huge gas main explosion and resulting death and destruction in San Bruno they are going out of their way to rebuild their image.

Honestly it's a fairly easy rip out if you know what your doing for both the gas and electrical.

But since you don't your going to have to pay one way or another.
