I am renting a 4X8 raised bed in a church community garden....filled with new organic soil. The garden is in SWF and planting season is approaching for fall crops. I hope to get my garden in mostly in September and then late October when I return from a vacation. I am thinking of using mostly organic grown seedlings and plants. This will be a vegetable/herb garden.

I am not experienced in tropical gardens .... my experience was in NH and ME. Different!

Any advice or suggestions or experience you can share?

Beefsteak tomatoes, and if you like melons and peppers, start in Sept. as you said. I'd wait for Nov.to plant lettuce, broccoli, etc.
Strawberries do well in 'winter' (if you can call it that, lol) here.

Great News! I am going to be out of the country from the last week in September to the last week of October......and I was afraid I would miss planting season. I might miss out on tomatoes.....but my collards and lettuce and radishes and broccoli and other cold weather crops should be fine .... I wonder about green beans? If all goes well will put in some eggplant and peppers if I have a chance before I leave.

There is a garden assistant who will look over my stuff and there is irrigation....(hard to think that we would need that now in the midst of the floods...lol)

Thanks again....I am much encouraged.
