As long as it's cool enough, and your lawn is not stressed from lack of rain you are good to go. Just make sure you water it in good after applying. I live on Long Island, and put mine down last week. I also applied pre-emergent to keep weeds from reseeding this time of year. I have many oaks in my yard, so I also put down granular lime. The pre-emergent, and lime gets applied twice a year, so in the spring I buy enough for both applications. Hope this helps.
Yes read the bag for the proper application rate, but that is where it ends. Micro climates, heavy rain forcasted, unusually warm weather, etc all have an effect on when it should be applied. So the OP comes here looking for a knowledgeable response from people who may be better in the know, and you tell'em to just read the dang bag.
Sooner rather than later meaning your about 2 weeks late. Just looked at your monthly forecast though and if you get it down within the next couple of days you'll still get a good benefit from the application.
As some have state above a good preemergent now and after the last snow has melted in late winter early spring is always helpful.
i applied yesterday, temps in NJ have been swinging from mid 60s to low 40s the passed week and last night was high 20s all night. i would say i'm about a week late in applying...gonna be 70 in a few days. Gotta love this weather
