TreeZoo - thank you for the link. At first, I was a little freaked out by the error message ("An Error Occurred...") but the link is valid. I read not only the abstract but the PDF file ( An Error Occurred Setting Your User Cookie ). However, they discuss "Manganese Binding by Municipal Waste Composts Used as Potting Media" ("ornamental plants in container media"). Note that they didn't use Milorganite, but "composted sludge" from Broward County FL.

Here's Milorganite's link for fertilizing palm trees:

https://www.milorganite.com/blog/tre...ing-palm-trees

Interestingly (for me in terms of this discussion), Milorganite links to the U of F (which references the study to which you linked for their conclusions regarding Manganese):

ENH1018/EP273: Nutrient Deficiencies of Landscape and Field-Grown Palms in Florida

TLDR - don't use composted sludge from Broward County on potted palms.

I did not spend a lot of time researching Broschatt's published work on the subject but I assume there is more out there. In dozens of classes, lectures, seminars and personal conversations with him, I can assure you that his warning relates to ALL sludge products as well as cattle and horse manure. Milorganite was top of his list as to what to avoid in palm ferts.

Still none in my area. I bought synthetic instead, but haven't put it down yet. If I can find milorganite this week i'll go with that.

OMG! I was at Big Orange earlier today, and they had Milorganite, so I bought the last two bags ($12.98 each). WooHoo!

Not synthetic poo. Bad choice of words. Inorganic fertilizer I meant.

I hate using the chemical ferts. As careful as I may be I always burn a spot or two or we go into a drought and I stress the lawn

Well found some milorganite. Returned the chemical fertilizer and threw down the milorganite instead this weekend.

Cut grass low, aerate, fertilize, and overseed and we have a week of cool temps, overcast days and rain coming up. Perfect timing.
