And here we are again.. Another year of gardening coming. After a mild winter with above normal snowfall in this area the ground is bare and the soil is soft.
As I have been doing, I will post my garden season progress, updates and pictures throughout the season here.
I raked one of the beds and then started tilling. Garlic on the left started growing in December after it was historically warm. They just started greening up again now. Will get a close up tomorrow.
Cleaning up the String Bean vines. Better left alone until now. They just fall apart in your hands. Easy to clean off the twine
BTW .. If you want to be shocked (cause I still am), click on last years 1st post March 7th. Felt and looked like the Ice Age with the Long Island sound still freezing over turn of March and record snow depth. It was nuts. I didn't think there would be a garden season
my lettuce is going crazy I can t put tomatoes in the ground until 2nd week of april and I have to get three more rose bushes to complete my rose garden and I cannot wait until this spring /summer when it all will be in bloom ...
I know the feeling. I'm so ready for this cold weather to be gone.
I got out and tilled up half of my garden today. Soil looks great. I threw some hay over it because I didn't really have anywhere else to put it. Enough of it broke down and the rest tilled in well. I'm so ready to get my tomatoes in the ground. I just need to figure out what else I'm going to plant.
2016 plants so far: 1 apple tree, 12 Better Boy tomatoes (planned), chocolate ghost pepper plant, habanero plant, mint (in its own little world), basil, Diamond Infinite Edge bow (if I catch a deer eating on my apple tree).
Any other ideas? I'm in Zone 8A. I did squash, zuchs, strawberries and, a few others last year. I also have one grape root in and another berry root in (can't remember what or precisely where). I might even try a Ice Cream banana if I can find the right spot.
I'm not ready to plant until 2nd week of april .just tilled my garden bed for my tomatoes and started my tomatoe seeds under grow lights today so by the 2nd week in april they will be ready to go into the ground .
I just seeded snow peas. Will do the cabbage and cauliflower next. I think I will do the tomatoes, peppers and okra this year in April. Last year, I had to wait until May.
Wayy too early to plant although the cool weather crops will be seeded in a couple weeks.
I have a feeling People are going to get screwed. We can EASILY get into a cold freezing snap after mid March and in April. I learned about patience with gardening
70s this week giving everyone the false itch.
