How long do pine cones grow on pine trees before they fall off? I am mostly interested in Ponderosa Pines.

about two years

I can confirm this, the female cones open and release their seeds in late summer of the second year.

Thank You, I wasn't aware there were male and female cones. How do you tell them apart?

Question is, how do you KEEP them apart ? You don't want to have a bunch of little pine cones running around !
