just had a 2nd solenoid valve put in along with a new water line with sprinklers for grass, but it seems it's not talking with the rainbird timer. i can turn the valve by hand and the sprinklers work, but can't seem to get it working with the timer
temporarily switch the new valve to the red wire at the valves (to test new coil/valve) with zone 1 on.
IF this works, then either
1) you're not properly turning zone 2 on at timer (zone 1 may still be on ??)
2)green wire is bad somewhere in the middle
3) zone 2 is 'burned out' on timer (can happen if wires accidently short while zone is on) - try zone 3 lug.
4) if none above fixes, throw away timer/valves and buy more pebbles like those under the valves to REPLACE all of grass in lawn; problem solved, never any more sprinkler problems, and lower water bill
Can you make the valve work **electrically** ??
The solenoid actuator.
Apply Xvolts to it ...and what happens?
---
Can you read voltage out from the timer (to the solenoid)?
I think it's an issue with the other wires, only red seems to work. I tried all other wires and can't get them to work and not sure where they have been disconnected.
Can you get any of the questionable solenoid valves to work on zone 1 or 2?
If so then the valves are not the problem.
If you can't get a useful signal TO the questionable valves (zone 3 or 4?)...
it could be damaged wire or it could be the controller.
Start at the output at the timer. If you have the correct voltage THERE...
then you need some new wire. If you don't... you need a new timer.
We traced the sprinkler wire to a shrub that had a drip line.. at that point all wires were capped off except the common and red wire.
Problem solved. Thanks for the help though, it definitely makes things easier to figure out
