A lot of people at C-D were mentioning the dearth or paucity of butterflies in their yards this summer. I was, too, but they are finally starting to show up in noticeable numbers. A couple of monarchs here, a few black swallowtails there, a number of skippers and zebras.
Are numbers picking up where you live?
I am on zone 7, and they started coming in August 15th. I have lots of the deep blue lobelias, which they are flocking to en mass, as well as the red ones......
We had a Monarch caterpillar on our milkweed Monday, but it poured rain here on Tuesday and now today (Wednesday) I didn't see it. Or any evidence of a chrysalis forming.

Same here. Started seeing them a couple of weeks ago. They seem to love all my sedum.

My sedum, too. If I go near it, dozens of butterflies all take off at the same time. It's magical.
