I'm planning to plant 5-6' tall hetz wintergreen arborvitae to block a view of a parking lot and apartment building behind my lot. I have a 37' space to cover. I know these eventually grow tall but stay fairly narrow. What is the ideal spacing? I have read 3' works but can take a few years to fill the gaps. Should I do 2-2.5' or is 3 my best bet?
Any planting and care tips are welcome as well. I have heard this cultivar is fairly hardy and not particular to soil.
Staggering is the best idea, but if you cannot do that, do not reduce the preferred spacing as you need really good airflow with those mature plants to prevent disease/insect damage.
I live in RI as well and was wondering where you found those 5-6ft Hetz Wintergreen Arbs? Was looking to get a few to block a neighbor's second story deck from my backyard.
Thanks.
